The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), known locally as Tamasha la Nchi za Jahazi, is a prestigious annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania. ZIFF serves as a platform for cultural exchange between Africa and the Indian Ocean basin countries, while promoting the local film industry and supporting the growth of Zanzibar’s creative economy. With a 27-year history, ZIFF has become a central hub for the film festival culture of Eastern Africa, showcasing the dynamic efforts of East African filmmakers.
As a graphic designer, I played an integral role in the visual strategy for ZIFF 2024. My contributions spanned a variety of design outputs, including social media content, event slides, and on-site materials. Working within the established brand guidelines, I ensured visual consistency across all assets, enhancing the festival’s presence both online and at the event itself.

Graphic Design Principle & Asset
The radial shape of the ZIFF logo, along with its bold blue and yellow color palette, has been central to the festival’s identity for years. For the 2024 edition, these core design elements were kept intact, staying true to the brand’s established look and feel. By maintaining the familiar geometric structure and vibrant colors, the design created a cohesive visual style that instantly connected with the festival’s recognizable image.
Working within tight deadlines required a fast-paced approach, where I efficiently utilised pre-established graphic elements to streamline layout composition. By employing simple, repetitive design elements, I was able to reinforce the core essence of the brand while significantly reducing the time needed for content updates and text replacements. This approach not only ensured visual consistency but also enhanced the brand’s visibility and recognition across various platforms.

Official Promotion Video
The promotion video was enhanced by incorporating motion elements into the existing rough edit, adding detailed visual touches to complete the final version. Post-production effects were applied to the source materials, improving the overall visual quality. A collage artwork was created to represent the interactions between ZIFF participants, highlighting the collaborative atmosphere of the festival. In addition to the standard 16:9 format, a vertical version was produced specifically for Instagram Reels. The video also featured interviews with key stakeholders, which were filmed and edited into engaging promotional content that showcased their perspectives.
